Joint Operation: Angry Dragon - Soaring Flame.

JO Campaign- Angry dragon, soaring flame

Wookie posted this on our forums not long ago. Thought i would post it here for your reference. It is pretty obvious that we will require addons, and the name of these just by reading the brief. It is still a WIP so things may change. As of yet Wookie has not revealed an expected readiness date, although known him its going to be ready by our next operation. Could be the start of a campaign......how cool would that be?

--------------------------------------------

History
The Chinese government have been pressuring for the Island Panthera to change from US to Chinese hands, claiming it is originally a Chinese colony from over 600 years ago and still has the rights to the island. The Chinese have consequently claimed the island is breaching various international law with the stationing of US troops on the island close to the Chinese major shipping lanes and the borders of Chinese held territory saying of various illegal probes into Chinese waters without government sanctioned permission.

The US of course deny any wrong doing or illegal military activity and are unwilling to relinquish the island into Chinese hands. With the tensions rising, the president of the US has ordered the island to be reinforced by troops from the pacific fleet.

That was 2 day ago...

It seems the Chinese beat us to it.

We have in the last 5 minutes received a call over the radio that gunfire has been heard at one of the near by villages on the western area of Panthera. We are to quickly mount our strykers and deploy at the village to see what the hell is going on. Do a sweep make sure its clear this time. If it is a false alarm, RTB.
Too many unusual things have been going on this last week, with malfunctions and breakdowns of equipment. We are even having trouble with the Early Warning Radar System. We haven't had word from the engineers sent a few hours ago to fix it either.

Stay vigilant.

This is a China vs. US conflict, and they only send in a few lightly armoured vehicles? Where's the carrier, the air support, the tanks, and the heavy weapons?

Nevertheless, it sounds really promising, with lots of surprises - the way things should be. I hope Wookie can iron out those respawn bugs beforehand, because it'll be great to start up more regular joint ops once again!

The US fleet with the reinforcements are not there yet, thus the island relies on whats at hand. It's US army garrison.

The US, although preparing for possible confrontation, isn't actually expecting aggression from the Chinese, especially over a small island. This is why the island doesn't have an entire mobile armoured division with full pacific fleet and nuclear cruise missiles.

Besides, why use tanks when its just to check out a gunfire incident? Strykers would provide ample protection in most cases barr heavy AT weapons and tanks. And why the hell would the Chinese invade? That's just preposterous...Wink

Anyway, the mission should be done soonish. Before Sunday anyway. Re spawns might not be in this either, after last missions mess up. I might just make my ol' campaign missions to use the first aid modules. I'll still use the respawns in my standalones however, as it doesnt really matter.

Be warned however, i consider these missions as 'serious' missions, designed to have more realism then my stand alone missions.

it'll actually be complete and ready for use before then. But you'll have to sort it out with merc/recon.

Seems like a good time for me. Suggest we do a dummy run sometime before that to make sure everyone can connect. Not actually play the missions just connect and make sure people can do what there supposed to.

i personally doubt the dummy run is needed. It hasn't the revive script or much of the framework being used (once finished). Im also gonna try and test the triggers (as there is alot) to see if it comes together. So far so good. I doubt i'll have it beta tested, as i dont want to spoil the surprises.

You miss understood me mate - i meant connect pick a slot and make sure people can move etc not actually sit and play through it.

And that is what i meant. too, the only reason why we couldn't move was most likely JIP from the respawn script. Respawns wont be in it, thus no need for test. but if you really must, then fair do's.

RE: Joint Operation: Angry Dragon - Soaring Flame.

Just a heads up, this campaign will be made on a week by week basis since i am planning it to be, like the internal campaigns i made for 3MERC, semi-dynamic.

This means after each mission, depending upon losses/gains of territory and equipment (and partly down to what ideas i cook up) will depend on how the next mission will play out.

For instance, if you lose those 3 strykers i gave you at the start, you won't have any new ones until resupplied when i deem necessary and fitting...

Via this strategy, one of my campaigns might last 4 mission, it might also last ten last 10 if you do poorly. Hell, you might even lose if im that evil.Pfft

There won't be any magical ammo boxes with a gazillion weapons, there wont be respawns, there wont be a huge selection of tanks and helicopters. The only thing that will remain constant is the max number of players that can play on any mission, as trying to simulated that, if we have a TPK, will mean replacements will be difficult to impliment into the campaign and would mean a total change in viewpoint, which, although could prove interesting, id rather be able to write that into a campaign at my choosing, rather then due to team failures.

Anyway, ramble over and changelog added.
*changelog*
-Briefing fixed for custom faction.
-added AT4 and some basic ammo to strykers to save on resupplies.

We have decided to go for 1900gmt mission start Sunday 10th Jan (today). All members should be on at least 10 mins before this is because once the slots are full you will not be able to join in as AI is disabled. Also the mission has no revive or re-spawn so once you are dead you are gone, and moved to the deceased(Temp) channel in TS3.

Please let me know here if you will be late before hand so we can reserve you a slot(AI).
